How the BDC Got Started
In 1991 the Bettendorf Development Corporation (BDC) was created as a branch of the Economic Development Committee for the Bettendorf Chamber of Commerce. It was in '91 that the Chamber's Economic Development Committee felt they could use additional assistance in bringing a prospective company into Bettendorf. Thus, the BDC was born.
The 1997 Capital Campaign
In 1997 the BDC underwent its first capital campaign. Through this campaign we raised $1 million. Within the proceeding 10 years we took that $1 million and created $635 million worth of new development. That means that we took every $1 and turned it into $635. This resulted in a 76% growth of assessed value of the city of Bettendorf or a $1.125 billion growth.
Since 1991
Since 1991 the BDC has played a crutial role in economic development in the city of Bettendorf. We played a key role in projects such as the removal of the lime pile, removal of the old Plaza Building and the Quad Cities Waterfront Convention Center. We have broken down the development that needs to take place in Bettendorf into six corridors: Utica Ridge Corridor, Golden Triangle Corridor, Kimberly Road Corridor, Riverside Development Park Corridor, I-80 and Middle Road Corridor and the Downtown Corridor. We will continue to bring new and exciting opportunities to the city of Bettendorf and the Quad City region.
